I conclude I'm stuck with being plugged in. This router broadcasts the external ip thousands of miles away. The installation disk freezes with wine so couldn't test this Ģ) The proprietary sat router blocks it. Mine is a pure linux box so that option isn't available. I've come up with two hypotheses: 1) the salesman used ndiswrapper over a previous win installation. This was tested with peasywifi, network wizard, sns, wifitray-net, network manager on fatdog, radky & fredX dogs, lxpup, easy, every version of lighthouse, porteus, slitaz with an assortment of downloaded or self-compiled kernels. In each case, networking finds the wifi (a netgears wifi router connected to satelite dish proprietary router) and acceptably strong signal but no network found. Tried all three blacklisting the two others. Once you select that, you will find the official driver for your Linux PC model number. On the Driver page, click the model number corresponding to your Linux PC. With rtl8xxxu, it says it needs rtl8xxxu-untested. Visit the TP-Link official website at tp-link. I got the same mint version and same stock kernel at home installed on a usb ssd but it was a no go. The salesman plugged it into a laptop running mint and it worked fine in the shop. I have the TL-WN822N dongle which works under XP to win10. Thought this was a better place to answer (than here): My dongle: TP-LINK TL-WN823N (EU) 'VER 2.0'. Maybe if you identified the device, you would get some help with it.
